DART's Travel Ambassador Program provides FREE Travel Orientation to anyone who needs a little extra help using public transit. (DART's bus and rail service) 

What is Travel Orientation?

Travel Orientation teaches the skills necessary to navigate public transit in a safe and independent manner. The instruction is personalized and taught with the customer's needs, abilities, and specific travel plans in mind. Training consists of outings in which a DART Travel Ambassador instructs an individual or group on how to prepare a trip plan, pay fare, and travel safely between their origin and destination.  

What are the benefits of using public transit?

Greater FreedomPublic transit allows spontaneous and flexible travel. Trips do not need to be scheduled in advance with family, friends, or through an on demand service provider. Greater Sense of Independence and EmpowermentPublic transit gives you the opportunity to go where you want, when you want.Increased AccessPublic transit provides greater access to employment, educational opportunities, shopping, and community and social activities. Saves MoneyPublic transit can save you money compared to driving personal vehicles or utilizing on demand vehicle services.

Who can benefit from Travel Orientation?

ANYONE who needs a little extra help using Public transit can benefit from Travel Orientation.  

Travel Orientation Topics and Skills

Travel Orientation provides instruction for all modes of public transportation including fixed route buses, light rail, and commuter rail.  

Travel Orientation is provided in three different formats:

 

One-On-One Training
  • Personalized one-on-one instruction to and from a specific location
Group Training
  • Group classroom training and practice trip
Lead Training
  • DART service and general trip plan training for organizational staff, so that they may assist others

What will you learn?

  • How to read schedules and trip plan
  • How to purchase a ticket
  • How to board a vehicle
  • How to recognize your bus/train
  • Where the nearest stop/station is to your origin and destination
  • Travel safety and security tips
  • Technologies available to aid in trip planning, bus locating, fare purchasing, etc.
