Housing: Rehabilitation ProgramsThe Housing Rehabilitation Program helps income qualified homeowners repair and or remodel their homes. Applicants must own and reside in the home to be repaired, and the home must be within the city limits of Arlington. For qualified homeowners, the City will fund 100% of the eligible repairs up to $24,500.
Examples of repairs are:
- Electrical, heating and plumbing
- Structural such as roofs, porches, windows, doors and foundation
- Other repairs needed to meet City codes
- Replacement of essential built-in appliances
The Housing Rehabilitation Program also assists income qualified owner-occupied households by providing grants up to $5,000 to pay for emergency repairs to their property. The emergency situation requiring repair must be a condition that occurred within the past 90 days, without warning, and is detrimental to or a threat to life, health or safety and requires immediate action.
Examples of emergency repairs include:
- Emergency Repairs
- Heating or cooling systems
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing systems
- Roof repair / replacement
Housing Modifications for Persons with DisabilitiesThe Housing Rehabilitation Program assists income qualified persons with a physical disability and their families by providing up to $5,000 for removing architectural barriers or modifying living spaces to maximize independence in performing activities of daily living.
Examples of eligible alterations include:
- Installation of accessibility ramps
- Installation of safety rails and grab bars
- Widening of door openings and adaption of door handles
- Installation of roll-in showers and non-skid flooring
The Housing Rehabilitation Program is funded by the City of Arlington which allocates a portion of its annual allocation of federal grant funding from the Community Development Block Grant and or the HOME program grant.
Criteria for EligibilityProgram participants must meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income limits. Program participants must have a total household income, at the time of application, that does not exceed the applicable HUD Income Limits. For the Housing Rehabilitation Program, the HUD income limits are 80% of the Area Median Income.
