About the Food Bank

The West Texas Food Bank (WTFB) is a nonprofit, non-governmental hunger relief organization. We are the largest collaborative nonprofit agency in the Permian Basin, and proudly distribute donated and purchased food to children, families, and seniors through a network of more than 75 Partner Agencies in 19 counties across 34,000 square miles in West Texas.

WTFB is able to provide four meals for every dollar donated, with 95 cents going directly to hunger relief.

We are constantly growing and changing to meet the needs of our communities, which range from a rural base to major cities like Odessa and Midland. While WTFB does give food directly to those in need, we primarily function as a distribution center. After receiving donated and surplus food, as well as food purchased at low wholesale prices from manufacturers, WTFB serves as a clearinghouse to solicit, store, inspect, and repack food for our Partner Agencies.

Our Mission

The West Texas Food Bank exists to collect, purchase, and distribute food to hungry children, families, and seniors in 19 counties across West Texas. We believe in leveraging our partnerships with volunteers and community organizations to educate West Texans about the real face of hunger.

Our History

The West Texas Food Bank was founded in Odessa, TX in 1985 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to address the critical issue of hunger in West Texas. In the first year of operation, WTFB distributed more than 200,000 pounds of food to 40 Partner Agencies. Today, WTFB’s main administrative office and warehouse are located in Odessa, TX, with a satellite office and warehouse in Alpine, TX. The Community Volunteer Center will open in spring of 2016 in Midland.

WTFB is a member of Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief network. We are also a member of Feeding Texas, a network of food banks that provide hunger relief across the state. These affiliations hold us accountable for rigorous standards and audits, helping ensure the highest quality service for our partner agencies, clients, and communities.
