VA - LGBTQ Program at DeBakey VA Medical Center

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Program

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) is proud to offer specialized services for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) and Questioning Veterans who are enrolled for VA healthcare. MEDVAMC recognizes that diverse populations have distinctive needs and the Medical Center is training our staff in culturally and clinically-competent care for LGBT Veterans.

MEDVAMC is one of only 9 VA facilities that has a full-time interprofessional LGBT Health Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow who is dedicated to serving this population of Veterans. The LGBT Psychology Fellow conducts trainings with staff and provides direct clinical services to LGBT Veterans, such as support groups and individual and couples therapy through the General Mental Health Clinic. MEDVAMC is also proud to offer services for transgender Veterans, including cross-sex hormone treatment and post-operative care. For information about LGBT-specific clinical services, contact Dr. Michael Kauth at 713-440-4460.

The hospital prohibits discrimination based on age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression. For more information on our General Visitation Policy, visit our Visiting Hours page.
