National Guard Association of Texas

The Texas National Guard (NGAT) was founded in 1959 as the professional organization of the Texas National Guard and its members.  NGAT has been instrumental in obtaining many improvements and benefits for The Texas National Guard and is committed to enabling this generation of the Guard to leave its successors a legacy of excellence and success.  The purposes of the National Guard Association of Texas shall be: To promote and support adequate National Security To foster and improve the National Guard of Texas and the National Guard of the United States as a component of the Armed Forces of the United States To preserve and perpetuate the history and traditions of the National Guard of Texas To further the educational opportunities of young people and to support educational, literary or scientific activities, including the granting of educational scholarships to annual and life members of the National Guard Association of Texas and their dependents.  The Association shall provide for an Educational Foundation to be known as the National Guard Association of Texas Educational Foundation. The Awards Program of the National Guard Association of Texas is designed to organize the activities of units and guard members of the state of Texas on a competitive basis in order to stimulate interest, efficiency and esprit de corps.  The awards are presented to individuals and organizations in recognition of heroic actions, outstanding achievements, and periods of meritorious service.  The Awards Committee is appointed by the president of NGAT, and it carefully selects award recipients from submitted nominations.  Awards include: The Minuteman Award The General K.
