MOAA - Alamo Chapter & Texas Council of Chapters

WHAT WE DO

The Alamo Chapter programs a wide variety of social functions throughout the year including monthly luncheons/membership meetings, an annual picnic and dinner dances. Chapter members also participate in Memorial Day and Veterans Day programs at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, patient visitation at Audie Murphy VA hospital and at Retiree Day events. The chapter supports local junior and senior ROTC programs and conducts a scholarship program for dependents of active and retired military members. Alamo chapter members also represent us on various councils in the local area including:

Veterans Administration Volunteer Service (VAVS) - The South Texas Veterans Health Care System. The VAVS Executive Committee informs the representatives of changes/additions to VA regulations and new regulations as well as any activities which affect patients, programs, patients' access care, holiday programs and needs of the hospitals and satellite stations. During the December holiday season, MOAA-AC adopts and decorates a ward at Audie I. Murphy VA Hospital

Volunteer Advisory Council (VAC) - Representatives of Fort Sam Houston organizations meet monthly to report on activities of their organization. Should any information pertain to the MOAA-AC membership, it is reported to our Executive Commitee.

Post Exchange/Commisary Advisory Council - This council receives information from the FSH Post Exchange and the FSH Commisary concerning any policy changes, new products etc. Representatives also provide feedback to the PX/Commisary managers.

Cookie Angels - Our Cookie Angels are a group of dedicated volunteers who bake cookies, cakes and bread and provide fruit, candy, games, books and phone calling cards for the Ft Sam Houston Soldier and Family Assistance Center. Their efforts greatly benefit the wounded soldiers returning from IraQ and Afganistan. Volunteers are always needed. You can brighten the day of our wounded soldiers and their families. Please call (210) 228-9955 and ask our duty officer to give your name to our Cookie Angel Coordinator. You'll be glad you did.
