Family Abuse Center

Services for Victims of Domestic Violence

The Family Abuse Center offers a free, safe and confidential place for adults and children to begin to experience life without violence. Our profession staff listen, advocate and provide moral support to all those seeking our services. We offer counseling, transportation help, job and life skills education, and more.

Adult Services

The Family Abuse Center provides a wide variety of services for all victims of domestic violence. For adults, we are able to provide emergency shelter along with general services such as case management, counseling, support groups, an array of legal services and assistance with housing. Our general services are also available to non-residential clients as well as those who live in rural areas. Our services are provided free of charge to anyone who has been impacted by domestic violence. We provide a 24-hour hotline number that clients may call in order to seek services.

Shelter

We provide a 24-hour emergency shelter for all victims of domestic violence. At the shelter, clients are provided with a private room, 3 meals per day, and direct access to all of our general services. In order to get more information or talk to someone about seeking our services, individuals may call our 24-hour hotline at 1-800-283-8401.

Legal Advocacy

We provide free legal services for all victims of domestic violence. Our legal advocates are available to residential, non-residential, and rural clients who reside within the seven counties we serve.

Counseling Services

We provide free counseling services for all victims of domestic violence. Our services are available to both adults and children who have been impacted by domestic violence.

Support Groups

We provide support groups and life skills classes for all of our clients. Support groups are facilitated by professionals and offer a place for clients to discuss different issues and topics such as domestic violence education, boundaries, self-esteem, financial planning, etc.

Children Services

The Family Abuse Center provides a wide variety of services for all victims of domestic violence. For children, we are able to provide emergency shelter for children and their parent along with services such as case management, assistance with school related arrangements or concerns, counseling, therapeutic and educational groups and enrichment activities for the parent and child while at the shelter to strengthen family relationships.

Case Management Services

When a new family enters the shelter, it can be a difficult and scary time for children of all ages. The Children’s Services Coordinator (CSC) or other children’s staff and interns will work with each family to help with the transition of living in the emergency shelter.

Counseling Services

Each child over 5 is welcomed and encouraged to participate in receiving individual and group therapy by our counselor. There is a children’s counseling group that meets once a week during evening group time. Parents can requests counseling for their children and the CSC will make that referral.

Evening Activity Groups

Evening activity groups meet every evening from 7-8pm Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Educational Arrangements

It has been shown that each time a student changes schools, they lose about six months academically. At Family Abuse Center, it is the CSC’s goal that all children are in a safe school within 24 business hours of their arrival at the shelter.

Preventative Services

A representative from the children’s department is happy to present child abuse identification and prevention, domestic violence and children, and violence prevention information to schools, community groups or organizations.

Rural Services

Just like our residential clients, individuals who live in rural areas and have been impacted by domestic violence are able to receive all of our general services free of charge. Many of our case managers and legal advocates are able to work together and travel into the rural counties in order to best serve our rural clients.

Case Management Services

Our Rural Advocates are able to provide case management services to all of our rural clients. Case management sessions provide clients with information, resources, and assistance in achieving their goals and sustaining their independence.

The Family Abuse Center provides free legal services for all victims of domestic violence. Our legal advocates are available to residential, non-residential, and rural clients who reside within the seven counties we serve.
