The Alamo Housing 4 Texas Heroes is a partnership developed by the Alamo Area Development Corporation (AADC), the Alamo Service Connection (ASC), the Bexar Area Agency on Aging (BAAA), and the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) Housing & Energy Conservation Program. In 2012, the US Census estimated that there were approximately 255,000 Veterans living in the Alamo region. Of these Veterans, 42% were age 60 or older and have at least one diagnosed disability.MISSION: The Alamo Housing 4 Texas Heroes program will provide essential home modification needs, associated with medical-specific conditions, for Veterans, their families, and unremarried spouses in the 13-county Alamo region of Texas. GOAL: Our goal is to provide home modifications for approximately 30 Veteran families that would not normally have access to services from other programs and that are low-income Texas Veterans.The program will run through June 2016 and will provide services ranging from a multitude of adaptations including, but not limited to, door widening, ramps and bathroom modifications. In 2012 and 2013, the AADC also received grants for the same program, and was successful in helping over 48 Veterans and their Families, exceeding their goals each year by over 122%. We hope to do the same with the current program which aims to support over 30 families with essential home modifications throughout the AACOG region.
