Bring Awareness To Invisible Wounds of War is an annual event held to raise awareness of the unseen injuries such at Post Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury and Military Sexual Trauma (PTSD, TBI, MST). While also bringing awareness to the many agencies that provide services to veterans and their family members at no cost. This year we hope to have over 25 different service agencies sign up to have information booths at our event, including all the various agencies and departments within the Dept. of Veteran Affairs..
Money is raised for this event through sponsorships, and vendors who come to sell a wide variety of goods. Everything from jewelry, to motorcycle gear, handmade crafts and body scrubs.
There will also be a 2 hour motorcycle run throughout some of the most scenic back roads of Palo Pinto County. The entry fee for the motorcycle run is $20 per bike and $5 for an additional passenger.
100% of the funds raised at this event go into a Veterans Relief Fund at Pecan Valley Centers. This money is used to provide financial assistance to veterans in need. Depending on the situation, sometimes we partner with other agencies to ensure the veteran receives the help they are needing. When we partner with other agencies, it is to share cost for whatever the veteran may be needing. We have partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, AmVets and in order to assist veterans and active duty personnel in need.
Money has been used to assist a homeless veteran by putting him up in a local hotel and arranging transportation for him to Dallas where he was further assisted by the Dept of Veteran Affairs Homeless program. We have paid rent, utilities, provided prepaid gift cards for fuel and groceries, as well paying for prescription refills, and have helped provide Christmas to over 40 children of veterans.
BATIWOW is the only fundraiser we do for our Veterans Relief Fund and we only collect a few thousand dollars each year so we limit assistance to only once per veteran family.
Pecan Valley Centers is a non profit so all donations are tax deductible. Overhead cost for the event are covered through sponsorships so that 100% of the money raised at our event can actually be used to assist veterans needing a hand up. If we are fortunate enough to receive sponsorship funds that exceed our overhead cost, the remainder of that money also goes into the relief fund. If we are unable to secure enough sponsors to cover event cost, then we go without extra items. For example, last year we were did not have event t-shirts or patches due to lack of sponsorship.
This is BATIWOW's fifth year. Huge thanks to our amazing friends and supporters. This year BATIWOW will be held Saturday June 2, 2018 at VFW Post 2399 located at 1400 Veterans of Foreign Wars St., Mineral Wells, TX 76067
